Before Bistrot Pierre opened a restaurant in Middlesbrough I hadn’t actually heard of or visited a Bistrot Pierre, I was surprised it was founded in 1994!
So after not knowing its existence I’ve been twice in the space of three days…
I’ve heard a few reviews from people that I know and I’ve seen quite a few people visit throughout my social media so I thought I would give it a try the day I got back from Gran Canaria, nothing like beating the holiday blues than French cuisine!
The first time I visited this week I tried their Prix Fixe lunch menu, which was really good value and absolutely delicious!
For starter I got whipped goats cheese on sour dough with sweet peppers, this isn’t on their menu anymore but I love goats cheese and I’ve never had whipped before and it was so good! For main, I got Boeuf braisé but again it’s slightly different on the menu at the moment but mine was slow-braised beef with bacon, red wine with potatoes and vegetables. They definitely didn’t scrimp on the beef, there was so much!
Considering 2 courses only cost £11.95 I was blown away!
While I was there they had a few leaflets on the table and one particular caught my eye, the Diner et vin menu. It is a 3 course meal paired with wine for £27.95 only available on the first and third Wednesday of each month. Before you know it I was already booking a table for two days later.
- Chicken liver parfait with sourdough toast and red onion confiture
- Baked goats’ cheese with toasted walnuts, marinated beetroot, chicory, watercress and grain mustard dressing
I got the baked goats cheese (again) which was delicious and quite light, I’m usually not a massive fan of white wine but the wine was really refreshing with the cheese. My boyfriend opted for the liver parfait and to be honest I wish I got it too! The red onion confiture was out of this world but the only thing was there was so much parfait in comparison to the toast, so perhaps save some of the bread they provide you with before your meal.
- Scottish pasture-fed 21 day-aged rump steak served with green peppercorn and brandy sauce, dressed leaves and pommes frites
- Roasted fillet of haddock with French beans and béarnaise sauce
We both had the steak but I opted for a garlic sauce and it was really delicious, again the red wine was really juicy and light which I wouldn’t of normally paired with a steak but it worked really well.
- Apple and rhubarb baked crumble served with vanilla ice cream
- Rustic French cheese board
We both opted for the crumble but the cheese boards did look amazing. The crumble was insanely good and a really good portion!
I definitely would recommend visiting whether for breakfast, lunch or for one of their special menus, I really enjoyed the Diner et vin not just for the food but I got to a chance to try a variety of wines that I normally wouldn’t of chosen!
