The Waiting Room is an award-winning vegetarian restaurant based in Eaglescliffe, for years now I’ve heard so many good reviews and I’ve been meaning to try it and now I have!
It was mine and my boyfriends anniversary last week and I’ve decided to do Veganuary and he has decided to go meat free for January, so the first place that popped in my head to celebrate was of course The Waiting Room.
From outside it looks really small so when we stepped in and took a seat we were surprised at how big and long the place was, it’s definitely deceiving. The interior was really cool and laid back, just what I like. The place began to fill up once we arrived, so it might be worth booking a table if you’re planning on visiting.
They change their menu every season – another added bonus! I went for olive and sundried tomato pate served with 3 types of bread all made by themselves, it was really tasty and the bread was to die for. The pate was more of a hummus texture but it was so flavoursome. Jack went for a courgette and sage soup, the two flavours seemed really odd to us but for some reason he went for it and he said it was delicious, it was really thick and creamy surprisingly.
For main I had an aubergine tagine and Jack had a goulash with a bubble and squeak patty. Again, the dishes had so much flavour and tasted really fresh.
I would 100% recommend anyone trying this place out whether you’re a veggie or not, they had so many choices to choose from. Whilst we were waiting we saw so many dishes that we wanted to try, the enchilada looked unbelievable! It’s definitely a unique restaurant in Teesside and it’s been going since 1985! I can see why it’s still going strong and I’m so glad I’ve finally tried it, I’ll definitely be back.
